Why Mental Enrichment Matters for Dogs

1 min read

A tired dog isn't always a dog who needs another hour of running. Sometimes they need to use the bit between their ears.

Sniffing, searching, problem-solving, exploring new textures and working out simple puzzles can all provide mental enrichment.

Physical exercise matters, but endlessly adding more high-energy activity can simply create a very fit dog who still struggles to settle. Rest and calm time matter too.

Good enrichment doesn't have to be expensive. Scatter feeding in grass, hiding treats, cardboard-box searches or letting your dog properly sniff on a walk can all count.

At Canine Collective we deliberately mix activity, sniffing, social time and rest rather than treating the whole day like one enormous dog rave.
