Why Human Painkillers Can Be Dangerous for Dogs

1 min read

This one isn't a funny dog quirk: please don't give your dog human painkillers unless your vet has specifically told you to use that exact medicine and dose.

Common human medicines such as ibuprofen can be toxic to dogs and may cause serious problems including stomach and intestinal injury or kidney damage.

Dogs process medicines differently from us, and a dose that looks small to a human isn't automatically safe for a dog.

If you think your dog is in pain, ring your vet. If they've already swallowed human medication, contact a vet promptly and tell them exactly what was taken, how much and when.

This is one of those occasions where Dr Google gets the afternoon off.
