Rainy-Day Enrichment: Easy Ideas for Dogs Indoors

1 min read

Rainy day. Dog staring at you. You staring at dog. Both of you wondering who is going to crack first.

Indoor enrichment can be wonderfully low-tech. Hide part of your dog's meal around a room, scatter food through scrunched paper in a box, use a snuffle mat, practise a few easy cues or create a safe search game.

The point isn't to make the puzzle ridiculously difficult. Enrichment should give the dog something enjoyable to investigate and solve.

Supervise anything involving cardboard, fabric or household objects, especially if your dog considers 'destroy it and eat the evidence' a legitimate strategy.

A wet day doesn't have to mean a bored dog — and thankfully it doesn't require turning your lounge into Crufts either.
