Can Dogs Predict the Weather?

1 min read

Your dog may not have MetService, but they can notice things about the weather before we do.

Dogs have much more sensitive hearing and smell than we do, and they may notice changes associated with approaching weather — distant thunder, wind, rain smells and shifts in the environment.

That doesn't mean every dog is a furry meteorologist. Behaviour can change for lots of reasons, and we shouldn't assume every odd moment means a storm is coming.

But if your dog consistently behaves differently before certain weather, they may genuinely be picking up cues you've missed.

Whether they'll then explain why the washing is still on the line is another matter.
